< back to the schtick

This studio focused on creating an outdoor learning environment for middle schools in the Denver Public School system, expected to be built in the fall of 2012. Research has shown that as children become more sedentary coupled by the degradation of play areas, there is a loss of play that results in serious consequences for health, education, and community development. Our design for Place Bridge Academy incorporates everything from a challenge course to an outdoor classroom to a healing garden. The majority of the student population at Place Bridge Academy is considered to be of “newcomer status,” many coming from various war-torn countries around the world. Therefore, our overall design is very sensitive to issues such as post-traumatic stress, displacement, and language barriers that these children may be dealing with.
